Bafetimbi Gomis fainted during match

Bafetimbi Gomis faints

Galatasaray striker Bafetimbi Gomis had an unfortunate moment during the match against Kasimpasa.

This season’s top goalscorer Bafetimbi Gomis collapsed on the pitch during Sunday night’s fixture against Kasimpasa. The striker was positioning himself during a corner kick awarded to his side however in the 7th minute he began to stumble before falling to the ground face-first.

Players from both teams surrounded the player to check on him and after realizing he lost consciousness were quick to wave to the medical staff for help. Within a minute, medics rushed to the player’s side. After a few moments of uncertainty, Gomis was helped back up and taken to the side where he was further examined. Club doctor Yener Ince gave Gomis the clear and the Frenchman ran back onto the field to continue the match.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the 32-year-old has lost consciousness while playing. Prior to joining Cim Bom, he used to play for Swansea City where he fainted during a defeat against Tottenham at White Heart Lane. He has also had a similar episode during a training camp with the French national team.

He suffers from a condition called vasovagal syncope — a condition where a person loses consciousness due to a sudden drop in blood pressure. The reasons vary from anxiety, stress and even high levels of humidity.

Galatasaray have been aware of his medical history prior to signing the in-form striker and have been consistently monitoring and assessing the player in order to prevent future scenarios.
