UEFA charges Besiktas over cat incident

UEFA have charged Besikas today over an incident involving a loose cat which took place during last night’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich at Vodafone Park.

As if being knocked out of the Champions League last night wasn’t bad enough, UEFA have rubbed salt into the wounds of Besiktas by charging the Turkish club with “insufficient organization”, after an orange cat made its way onto the pitch and ran up and down the byline causing the referee to stop play for a few moments.

UEFA have said the charge is also due to fans throwing objects and for blocking stairways which is considered a safety hazard.

The case is set to be heard by UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body committe, on May 31 2018.

The news comes on the back of last night’s 3-1 loss, 8-1 on aggregate, to Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16.
