Goztepe fans set city on "fire" for club's 93rd birthday

Goztepe fans celebrated the Turkish club’s 93rd birthday earlier tonight as they took to the streets by the thousands.

Super Lig club Goztepe, like most Turkish clubs, have some of the most passionate fans in Turkey.

The club celebrated its 93rd anniversary today, June 14th, and fans flocked to the streets to set of flares and fireworks to celebrate the occasion.

One of the most popular areas to celebrate, the Mustafa Kemal boulevard along the waterway, was packed with supporters who burned tens of thousands of flares at the same time, turning the city red.

The celebrations began at 7:25PM local time and lasted for several hours, during which traffic in the area was diverted. There were live DJ performances as well as light shows along the seashore. There were also face painting activities organized forthe children on the beach.

It’s a scene that that occurs every year, regardless of what division the club are in.

Last season, Goztepe made their return to Turkey’s top flight for the first time in several years, during which the club finished a respectable 6th.
