Cuneyt Cakir to officiate CL fixture

Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir is the man in charge of the Chelsea-Barcelona match on February 20th.

Cuneyt Cakir has been appointed as the referee to officiate the mouth-watering clash between Chelsea and Barcelona in the Round of 16 knockout phase of the Champions League.

The match will certainly bring back memories for the Turkish referee who officiated the second leg of the semi-final of the Champions League in 2011-2012 which was again contested between the two football giants.

During that encounter, which was took place in Camp Nou, Cakir sent off John Terry with a red card, a controversial decision to this day among die-hard Chelsea supporters.

So far this season, Cuneyt has officiated three group matches;

November 11th 2017: Tottenham vs Real Madrid (3-1)

September 27th 2017: Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea (1-2)

December 5th 2017: Bayern Munich vs Paris SG (3-1)
