Emre Can joins Borussia Dortmund on initial loan

Germany international Emre Can will play for Borussia Dortmund until the end of the current season.

Borussia Dortmund have signed Germany international Emre Can from Juventus on an initial loan transfer, both clubs confirmed on Friday.

The 26-year-old will spend the rest of the 2019-2020 campaign with the Bundesliga giants but will become a permanent Dortmund player in the summer.

Can, who is of Turkish origin, has taken a significant pay cut to facilitate the transfer — he will earn €8.5 million in wages while in Dortmund compared to his €14 million salary at Juventus.

In addition to the €1 million loan fee, reports suggest Borussia Dortmund will pay Juventus €25 million for the midfielder’s permanent transfer in the summer.

Despite his technical abilities, Can was not a regular started for Juventus this season, making 8 appearances — almost all of of which were as a substitute.

The Germany international was also not a part of the Italian football club’s Champions League squad and thus did not feature in any of their Champions League matches.
