Negredo taken to hospital

Following tonight’s loss to Istanbul Basaksehir, Besiktas striker Alvaro Negredo was taken to the hospital.

Besiktas striker Alvaro Negredo suffered an injury to his right cheekbone during the tightly-contested Turkish Super Lig match against city rivals Istanbul Basaksehir earlier tonight and was taken to a local hospital, the club have said in an official statement on their website.

“Alvaro Negredo suffered a fracture in his right cheekbone and was taken to the hospital where he was examined and had emergency surgery to remedy the fracture. Our player will return to training after one week with a special protective mask.”, said the club in their statement.

The team’s manager Senol Gunes further clarified the situation during the post-match press conference:

“During the encounter, Negredo suffered a hit to his right cheekbone and so we sent him to have a tomographic scan.”

Tonight’s loss against city rivals Istanbul Basaksehir leaves the Black Eagles in 3rd place with 50 points, four behind leaders Galatasaray while Istanbul Basaksehir moves up to 2nd place with 53 points.
