Cenk Tosun threatens fan, sent off during friendly

Everton striker Cenk Tosun had a night to forget during Turkey’s friendly match with Tunisia this evening.

Former Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun was sent off with a straight red card in the 61th minute of the Tunisia-Turkey friendly in Geneva, Switzerland tonight.

The game was tied at 1-1 when suddenly in the 58th minute Tosun walked to his team’s substitute bench and began pointing and shouting at a group in the stands.

It turns out a flare was thrown during the celebrations of the goal Cenk scored in the 54th minute and hit his father, who was watching the game in the stands.

An arguement broke out between Cenk’s father, who was there along with other relatives, and a group in the stands.

The 26-year-old saw the commotion and thought his family was being attacked. He went over to the sideline to confront the group, to which he directed a throat-slitting gesture.

After several moments of Cenk losing his temper and pointing and shouting at the group, the situation calmed down thanks to his teammates.

The referee saw Cenk’s gesture and sent the player off.

It was all a misunderstanding, however. Cenk’s family was not being attacked nor were they hurt. The flare did not hit his father but rather landed behind him. He then tried to tell fans next to him to not throw any objects and to keep to themselves as they watch the game.

Tunisia took advantage of the sending off and took the lead through Ferjani Sassi to make it 2-1.

However, in the 90th minute, wonderkid Caglar Soyuncu scored to equalize for Turkey.

To top it all off, fans invaded the pitch as Turkey was celebrating the late equalizer and the referee had to suspend the match.

Eventually, the crowd was dispersed and the final seconds of the match was played. The game finished 2-2.
