Gomis explains why he was benched last game

The French striker was on the substitutes bench during his team’s season opener against Ankaragucu yesterday.

Bafetimbi Gomis did not start for Galatasaray and did not feature even as a substitute yesterday as his teammates lined up against Ankaragucu. The French striker spoke to reporters and explained his absence after his teammates defeated their opponents 3-1 in the season opener.

“It was important to start off with a win. Ankara is a tough place. The important thing is Galatasaray. We’re all working to help the team. In the last weeks, I didn’t perform well and that’s why I was on the bench. Like I said, what’s important is Galatasaray. I will do my best to return better than before. That’s my goal,” the Frenchman explained.

Fatih Terim decided to play Eren Derdiyok as his team’s striker and keep The 32-year-old on the bench. Gomis had missed the crucial penalty kick during Galatasaray’s loss against Akhisarspor in their Turkish Super Cup clash last week, which was the reason Terim decided to bench the player, according to pundits in Turkey.
