Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum laughed at Turkey links

Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum has shot down speculation surrounding his future, linking him with a move to the Turkish top flight.

Georginio Wijnaldum has said he was baffled by reports linking him with a move from Liverpool to Turkey earlier in the summer.

Reports in Turkey last month claimed midfielder Wijnaldum was close to moving to Super Lig club Fenerbahce, where he would have been reunited with his former PSV Eindhoven boss Phillip Cocu.

“That was the speculation of the media. I laughed about it,” he told reporters.

“I also read that I asked the club if I could leave. I never had a conversation with the club. But that was something from the media that I was going to Turkey, maybe because Phillip Cocu is manager and I worked with him for two years. I don’t know who put it in the media, but it wasn’t me.”
