Iranian defender Morteza rejects Trabzonspor

The Black Sea Storm have been unsuccessful in their pursuit of Morteza Pouraliganji.

Iranian international Morteza Pouraliganji has turned down the contract proposal made by Trabzonspor. The Super Lig club and player were locked in talks for over a week.

The 26-year-old was in Istanbul earlier this week to hash out a deal with the Turkish club after he became a free agent since his deal with Qatar club Al-Sadd expired.

However, after much discussions, the club and player did not see eye to eye on the financial terms of the deal.

Pourliganji took to Instagram to let his fans know of his decision.

“Trabzonspor were interested in me for a long time. They made a good offer to my agent. With the insistence of the honorable chairman of the club, we went on a trip to Istanbul. The intention of the trip was to get acquainted with the head of the club, the manager of the club and to meet the coach. It’s important for me to know what the goal of the club is and what plans the coach of the team has for me.

We had a great meeting with the head and manager of the club and I thank them very much for that. Last Saturday, we had a meeting with the head coach, which was very informative and useful for me as we were able to express our thoughts with the coach.

I decided to remain in Istanbul for a few days after the meetings to make a decision. Ultimately, after consulting with my brother and agent, I’ve decided to return to Iran.

I turned down the best team in Qatar and other clubs from Qatar, as well as a few Russian offers. I also did not accept Greek and Turkish offers. I am grateful to Trabzonspor for their belief in me.”

Trabzonspor have turned their attention elsewhere and are still looking to add another player to their squad before the end of the transfer window.
