Fenerbahce, Galatasaray stunned in Super Lig defeats

Both Istanbul clubs lost points this weekend.

Super Lig giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray lost points on Saturday evening in the fourth week of the 2018/2019 Turkish Super Lig.

The match between Fenerbahce and Kayserispor at Ulker Stadium in Istanbul saw the Phillip Cocu’s men defeated 2-3 with pundits critical of his tactical setup.

The hosts, Fenerbahce, were leading 1-0 after Andre Ayew scored the first goal of the evening in the 13th minute of the first half. However, Kayserispor managed to equalize in the 52nd minute thanks to midfielder Bernard Mensah to make it 1-1.

Algerian star Islam Slimani scored the second goal for Fenerbahce in the 57th minute with a fine strike. This was his first goal for his new club. But Kayserispor brought the score to 2-2 when Fenerbahce’s Martin Skrtel scored an own goal in the 61st minute.

Fener were unable to hold on for the draw, however, as the guest team sealed the win and the 3 points after Tjaronn Chery scored the third goal in the 69th minute.
