de Souza: They understood my worth after I left

Brazilian midifelder Josef de Souza has spoken out against his critics during his time at Fenerbahce.

Former Fenerbahce midfielder Josef de Souza has hit back at the criticism he received from fans during his time with the Yellow Canaries.

Now playing for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, he spoke to Tunc Ozgen from Takvim who had a few questions for him about his time with Fenerbahce.

After three years with Fenerbahce, you transferred to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ahli. You were criticized a lot during your days with Fener. However, even after you left the results are the same. What do you think about that?

“I follow Fenerbahce’s games closely. I had great days there. I feel sorry for the predicament the club is in. The fans have the right to speak their mind. They are thinking with their emotions, not rationally. When we would win 3-0, 4-0, 5-0, they would congratulate us but when we would lose they would blame me and Mehmet Topal as the problem. I got used to that. I didn’t care about it anymore.”

“When you win the fans support you but when you lose they criticize you. They criticized me a lot but after I left the team they understood my worth. Like I said, the fans are emotional not rational. But up until the last day, I always gave everything for Fenerbahce.”

The Brazilian midfielder moved to Saudi Arabia this past summer.
