Roberto Soldado apologizes for red card incident

The Spanish forward was sent off during Fenerbahce’s 1-0 loss on Friday evening.

Fenerbahce striker Roberto Soldado took to social media to apologize to the club’s supporters for getting sent off with a red card in the first half during Fenerbahce’s away Super Lig clash with Kayserispor on Friday.

The experienced striker went with his foot high into a challenge for the ball against an opposition player only to catch him with the studs of his cleats.

While the referee had initially taken out a yellow card to caution Soldado, the player began to protest his decision during which he lashed out in English against the referee, allegedly insulting him with the phrase “F… off!”

This led to the referee to change his mind and show the Spaniard a direct red card, leaving Fenerbahce with 10 men for the remainder of the game.

Kayserispor exploited their numerical advantage and took the three points after their striker Kravets made the score 1-0 in the 87th minute.

Soldado, fully aware that his irrational behaviour attributed to his team’s loss, posted an apology on his official Twitter page late on Friday evening.

“I take full responsibility for the defeat we received today. We lost the game because of an individual stupidity. I apologize,” he Tweeted.

The loss is another setback for The Yellow Canaries who find themselves in 13th place with 23 points, barely above the relegation zone. Though that could change depending on results later this weekend.
