FB, GS knocked out of Europa League

The Turkish clubs had a rough night on Thursday as they crashed out of Europe.

Turkey’s representatives — Fenerbahce & Galatasaray — in the 2018-2019 season of the Europa League have been eliminated in the Round of 32 of the tournament on Thursday evening.

Despite winning the first leg 1-0 in Istanbul, Fenerbahce failed to capitalize on their advantage in the return leg, which saw them lose 3-1 (3-2 on aggregate) against Zenit St. Petersburg in Russia on Thursday.

Galatasaray also bid goodbye to the tournament after drawing 0-0 against Benfica in their second leg of the tie in Lisbon, Portugal. Cim Bom lost 2-1 at home in the first leg of the duel which meant Benfica advanced 2-1 on aggregate.

While The Lions have a realistic chance of winning the Turkish Super Lig this season, the Yellow canaries are facing a very different reality as they must now focus on picking up as many points as they can in order to avoid relegation, a feat that would bring unparalleled embarrassment for the club’s players and administration.
