Trabzonspor’s Anthony Nwakaeme in hot form

The Nigerian international has proven to be one of the club’s most effective signings this season.

Trabzonspor forward Anthony Nwakaeme is making a name for himself at the club and in the league with his consistent performances this season. The Nigerian has rescued the Turkish club on numerous occasions since his arrival and is already the team’s second highest scorer this season after his Colombian teammate Hugo Rodallega.

The 29-year-old has scored 8 goals so far, just a few shy from the 12 scored by the team’s current top scorer Hugo Rodallega.

Nwakaeme was on target once again this past weekend as Trabzonspor lined up against league leaders Istanbul Basaksehir.

Since transferring for €1.1 million from Israeli outfit Hapoel Be’er Sheva, he has gone on to make 19 appearances thus far. Despite a slow start in the first half of the season, 2019 has seen the player up his game and put in consistent performances on weekly basis.

The Nigerian forward has found scoring against big teams in Turkey relatively easy, even scoring twice against Galatasaray earlier this season, and once during an away game against Besiktas.

While Trabzonspor continue to find their rhythm as they sit in 4th place with 43 points, Nwakaeme’s goal-scoring abilities could see the team qualify for Europe come the end of the season — a feat which the Turkish club have been wishing for for many years.

With Rodallega set to miss Trabzonspor’s next league fixture due to an automatic suspension for accumulating too many bookings, the Nigerian, will once again, have an opportunity to add to his increasing goal tally.
