Trabzonspor’s Olcay Sahan free to leave club

The Turkish midfielder has a release clause which allows him to leave the club for free, according to the club’s president.

Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu confirmed the club’s midfielder, Olcay Sahan, is allowed to leave on a free transfer.

According to Agagolu, who sat down with TRT Spor and spoke about the club’s transfer plans in the summer, two to three players will leave Trabzonspor at the end of the season, one of which could be Olcay Sahan.

The midfielder is one of the biggest earners at The Black Sea Storm, with his salary confirmed to be around €1.8 million by Agaoglu.

However, a new agreement between the club and player made last month sees the German-born Turkish international reduce his wages by “50%” in order to alleviate the financial burden the club is facing.

The new deal contains a release clause which allows Sahan to leave Trabzonspor without a transfer fee should he find a club which wants to sign him, according to Agaoglu.

The club’s president also hinted at the possibility of striker Hugo Rodallega and defender Luis Ibanez leaving in the summer upon the expiration of their contract. Both players’ deals expire on June 30, 2019.

Trabzonspor are currently in 4th place in the league and in contention for a Europa League qualification spot, a feat which the Turkish club have failed to achieve in years.
