Galatasaray defeat Akhisarspor to lift Super Cup

The Lions held on to a narrow 1-0 win to emerge victorious and add another trophy to their cabinet on Wednesday evening.

Turkish football giants Galatasaray defeated second-division minnows Akhisarspor in Ankara on Wednesday evening to win the 2019 Turkish Super Cup.

The game finished 1-0 for The Lions who managed to score the only goal of the game thanks to attacking midfielder Younes Belhanda in the 39th minute of the duel.

The Morocco international put his team ahead with a powerful curling shot after finding space in a congested Akhisarspor penalty box.

Akigo pushed for an equalizer in the second half and managed to come close on multiple occasions but were ultimately defeated by a much stronger Galatasaray, who had a ball possession of 70% at certain points of the clash.

The two clubs also met during last year’s Super Cup final. Akhisarspor managed to pull off an impressive win then, however, as they defeated Galatsaray 5-4 on penalties.
