Trabzonspor president confirms €23m offer

The Black Sea Storm have received multi-million euro offers for some of their talented players, says the club’s president.

Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu spoke at length about the club’s transformation financially earlier this week and has even revealed the eye-watering transfer offers the club have received for a few of their players in 2019.

The Super Lig club have recently gone through something of a transformation as they try to keep their finances under control.

Having released multiple players recently in order to reduce their wage expenditure, Trabzonspor are now a club that is making money, Agaoglu explained during a press conference earlier this week.

“We used to be a club which would lose money when selling players but now, thanks to our administration, we are a club which makes money when selling players,” Agaoglu said.

Pointing out their profit from selling Yusuf Yazici for €17 million to Lille last season, Agaoglu revealed that they received other high-figure offers last year for some of their players.

“Yusuf Yazici’s transfer is 17 million, 20 million with bonuses. He is this country’s only player to be trained in this country’s infrastructure and sold for this kind of money. Abdulkadir Omur, who is another youth player, received a 23 million euro offer last year. Ugurcan Cakir is another player for whom we received a 20 million euro this year. The total value of the players we brought from the youth academy is 60-70 million euro,” Agaoglu explained without naming the teams who made the offers.

“We are a club which used to pay 2.3 million euro for a 30-32 year-old defender for a one-season loan. Now, that same player is playing in Cyprus for 150,000 euro. That is how we wasted our money,” he added.

The club’s president also revealed Trabzonspor, whose budget for transfers in January is €800,000, are working on adding 2-3 players to their squad before the January transfer period comes to an end in about a week’s time.
