Caglar Soyuncu sparks Atletico Madrid rumour

The Turkish defender has set off the rumour mill with his latest comments regarding La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

Having lost out on a place in the Europa League final last season, Arsenal could be upstaged by Atletico Madrid in the transfer market.

Freiburg youngster Caglar Soyuncu is one of several players being linked with a move to the Emirates this summer- as the north Londoners look to shore things up at the back and finally fix their defensive woes.

In the case of the Turkey international, it appeared that a switch was all but a formality following comments from his agent, Mustafa Dogru.

“The main objective of the player is to play in the Premier League, that I can tell you at the moment,” Dogru said. “We are negotiating with some clubs, but I can’t give the name of the clubs – I’m sorry.

“Next week we will have some meetings and I think in 10 or 15 days his situation will be clear.

“They (Freiburg) are open to negotiations.”

However, Soyuncu himself sparked speculation of a switch to Atletico Madrid instead.

“My friends who play in Spain tell me it is a fantastic competition,” Soyuncu told BeIn Sports. “I watch La Liga games and from what Emre Colak, Enes Unal and Emre Mor have told me, it is a league I would love to play in.

“Atletico Madrid are a really strong team, very well-organised and they have a lot of ambition, a lot of potential.”

Now reports coming out of Turkey suggest that Soyuncu could be on his way to Atletico as a potential replacement for Diego Godin should he link up with Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus.

Soyuncu made his debut as a teenager at Altinordu S.K and went on to make more than 30 appearances for the first-team before earning himself a move to Freiburg in 2016. The German club fended off competition from Sevilla and Besiktas to sign the defender for just £2.4million.
