Flamengo look elsewhere after failing to sign Babel

The Brazilian club’s vice president Ricardo Lomba addressed their bid for the Besiktas winger.

Brazilian club Flamengo have accepted they won’t be able to sign Besiktas star Ryan Babel this summer. The club’s vice president Ricardo Lomba spoke to reporters in Brazil regarding their failure to sign the Dutch player.

“Babel is a great player, a very good attacking player. We want to add a forward to our squad but we couldn’t agree terms with Babel. We’re looking elsewhere,” he said.

Meanwhile, earlier this week Besiktas president Fikret Orman said there were three possibilities surrounding the player.

“We have no issues with Babel regarding a transfer. He can either leave, sign a contract extension and stay or finish his contract at the end of next season and leave. Those are the three possibilities. We’ll see.”

The two clubs had agreed over his transfer last week, however, the Dutch international rejected a move to Brazil, preferring to remain in Turkey.
