Bursaspor president: VAR is for Istanbul clubs only

The Green Crocodiles lost 2-1 in their season opener against Fenerbahce last night, which saw several controversial decisions go against them.

Bursaspor president Ali Ay spoke out against the decisions of the referee and the Video Assistant System (VAR) during his team’s 2-1 loss against Fenerbahce last night.

After the match, Ay gave a statement on the controversial decisions of the night.

“The VAR system has been set for Istanbul clubs only. I’m very frustrated. We were not given a penalty in the lat minute. We’ll stand behind the VAR system but we will have discussion regarding the matter, we’ll meet with the club’s Board. I saw the deficiencies of the system during the game. We played very well and if the penalty in the last minute was given, as it should have been, we would have left with a draw,” he said.

“The system should be fair for everyone. I’m hoping for a good season. Hopefully, we will have a good season.”

The club’s manager, Samet Aybaba, also shared the same thoughts on the new system, suggesting it’s in favour of certain clubs only.
