Hakan Balta retires from football

The Turkish left-back has called time on his career today.

Former Galatasaray left-back Hakan Balta has took to Instagram to announce his retirement from professional football.

The 35-year-old was released by Galatasaray at the end of the previous season and after being unable to find a new team, he has decided to hang up his cleats for good.

Balta spent 11 years with The Lions, establishing himself as a key player after his transfer from Manisaspor for €1 million in 2007.

In addition to Galatasaray and Manisaspor, he thanked all of his youth teams which aided in his development as a professional.

He will make a short appearance before Galatasaray’s clash with Goztepe tomorrow (Sunday) to bid farewell to the supporters in person.
