Turkey to revise foreign player rule end of season

There could be a change in the foreign player rule in Turkey’s top flight next season.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) are planning to review the current foreign player rule in the Turkish Super Lig at the end of the season, according to the organization’s vice president Ali Durust.

Speaking to various Turkish outlets, Durust said that there will be meetings with the Turkish Club Association at the end of the current campaign to discuss and possibly change the limit Super Lig clubs are allowed to register.

The news comes after Besiktas manager Senol Gunes spoke out yesterday suggesting there are too many foreign players in Turkey’s top flight.

“The vision of the Turkish Football Federation is a decision that is made in consideration with the Club Association. We spoke recently. There will be a revision of the rule at the end of the current season. We are working together with the Club Association,” he explained.

“We will find a solution that will be compatible with the values of Turkish football, the Turkish national team and football in general,” he added.

Currently, Turkish Super Lig clubs are allowed to register 14 foreign players and can field 11 foreign players in their starting line up, with no obligation to play Turkish talent.
