Senol Gunes: If I leave, I’ll coach Turkey

The Black Eagles boss spoke for over an hour during a press conference today.

Besiktas boss Senol Gunes held a press conference at the club’s Nevzat Demir facilties where he faced a barage of questions from Turkish reporters.

The experienced coach spoke at length and answered many questions as he faced the media.

One of the more interesting questions was regarding his future as a coach, with one year left on his contract.

“My contract ends this season. I haven’t thought about leaving Besiktas and there’s no reason to. If I leave, I’ll coach the national team,” he said.

The 66-year-old also addressed rumours surrounding his relations with striker Alvaro Negredo and club president Fikret Orman, saying there was “no problem with them.”

“The president, he calls me ‘brother’. There may be disagreements between us, but do you not have disagreements in your family?”, he explained.

“Negredo is the most compatible player I have. There is no problem. He earns high wages, he was injured at the beginning of the season and there were clubs interested. That’s why I said he should go. I said the same about Lens and Love.”
