Cocu: We’re in a terrible state

The Dutch coach was at a loss for words to explain his team’s lackluster performance against Caykur Rizespor on Sunday evening.

Fenerbahce manager Phillip Cocu had little to say to reporters after he watched his team suffer defeat against newly promoted Caykur Rizespor on Sunday.

His brief remarks about his team’s loss were as follows;

“What I saw on the pitch did not reflect what I expected. We should have played better. You can play well, you can play bad. In the firsthalf, our opponent wanted to win more. We lost the game in 12 minutes. We conceded three goals one after the other. I’m very disappointed. I apologize to our supporters. It shouldn’t have been like this. We’re in a terrible state. This isn’t the type of football we should be playing.”

Cocu with his translator during the post-match conference.

“I think it’s a shame how we presented ourselves in the first half considering how Rize played in their home game with their passion, their will to win the game. So much determination. We conceded 3 goals in 12 minutes. That’s unbelievable. We’re in a very bad situation, especially for a big club like Fenerbahce. We all have to realize it. We apologize to the fans, they were with us. But there’s no defending it. We’re really sad in this moment. We don’t have the luxury to play this way.”

After giving a short statement in the post-match press conference, Cocu left without taking any questions from reporters.
