Besiktas midfielder Tolgay Arslan linked with rivals

The German-born midfielder has been frozen out of the first team for the past few months but could be given a way out by Fenerbahce.

Besiktas midfielder Tolgay Arslan’s next destination has been set, according to a source close to the player. The talented player has been omitted from the first team by the club’s management after he did not agree to having his wages converted to and paid in Turkish Lira instead of Euro, as agreed upon in their contract.

The measure was taken at the beginning of the season due to the weak Turkish Lira exchange rate and in order to save money, Besiktas passed a rule within the club that all players’ salaries will be converted from Euro to Turkish Lira at a set rate (believed to be around 5.40 TL per Euro).

Tolgay did not agree to this, however, and subsequently lodged an official complain with the Turkish Football Federation against Besiktas in October.

The 28-year-old is reported to have revealed to his close circle that he plans to continue his career in the Turkish Super Lig and has “agreed with Fenerbahce to a large extent.”

His departure from the club is expected in January as he seeks to resume his career.
