Defender Serdar Aziz will not feature for the defending Super Lig champions after his wife reveals they went on a secret holiday.

Galatasaray have transfer listed defender Serdar Aziz and forward Eren Derdiyok, the club’s coach Fatih Terim announced on Thursday.

The decision to transfer list the defender was made after Aziz’s wife revealed that they were both on holiday in the Maldives despite the player calling in sick and missing the final league game of the season before the winter break, against Sivasspor, with a stomachache.

After the outcry from Galatasaray fans on social media became louder, Serdar Aziz defended himself saying that he could not play because he suffering from food poisoning and he continued with his pre-planned family trip.

Derdiyok, on the other hand, has been criticized for his lackluster and inconsistent performances through out the season. The club’s management have decided they need to change things up for the second half of the season.

“l like Serdar and Eren but we have different perspectives in working together. That’s why they will not be in our squad during the rest of the season. l hope they would be successful in their rest of the career,” Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim said in a video on social media on Thursday.

Both players joined The Lions before the 2016-2017 season and have played for the club for two-and-a-half seasons.

Swiss international Derdiyok scored 26 goals in 84 games while centre-back Aziz scored 5 goals in 51 outings for Galatasaray.

Aziz, who has been capped 16 times by Turkey, joined Galatasaray from Bursaspor in 2016, and quickly become an established member of the squad.
