Basaksehir extend lead to 6 points

The title hopefuls continue their quest towards the league title, solidifying their spot at the top of the table with their latest win.

Title hopefuls Istanbul Basaksehir strengthened their position at the top of the Super Lig with 38 points after beating the Trabzonspor in a 6-goal thriller in their first match of the second half of the season.

Turkey’s top flight has been experiencing something unprecedented this year as trio Galatasaray, Besiktas and Fenerbahce are far from their best, plagued by financial issues, backroom problems and inconsistent performances on the field.

In the 18th week of the Turkish Super Lig, leaders Basaksehir beat runner-up Trabzonspor 4-2 away on Sunday to resume their charge towards to the title.

In the first match of the second half of the season, Besiktas defeated Akhisarspor 3-1 on Friday January 18, while Galatasaray comfortably went past Ankaragucu with a score 6-0 on Saturday January 19.

Basaksehir are currently leading the title race with 38 points while the defending champions Galatasaray and minnows Malatyaspor have 32 points each, followed by Kasimpasa, Trabzonspor and Besiktas with 29 points each.
