Fenerbahce to hold snap elections?

The Yellow Canaries are going through their worst season in their entire club history and a snap election to oust the current president Ali Koc could be on the cards.

Fenerbahce supporters are preparing for life without Ali Koc already, according to reports in Turkey. Despite being elected in the summer of 2018 in a landslide victory, the team have been a disaster under his presidency currently fighting to avoid relegation.

Reports in Turkey claim veteran officials within the club are planning to force the administration to hold snap elections in March in order to oust current president Ali Koc from the position and replace him with another name.

Nihat Ozdemir, the former deputy chairman of Fenerbahce for 17 years who resigned from his position in 2011, has been backed by several Board of Directors, including former club president Aziz Yildirim, to take over the reins from Ali Koc, according to reports.

The wealthy businessman, claimed to be the 14th richest person in Turkey by Forbes in 2018, is said to have a net worth of around $1.7 billion compared to Ali Koc’s $850 million.

Nihat Ozdemir, Fenerbahce’s next president?

Ozdemir is a shareholder of a number of business and organizations in Turkey including Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen Airport and Limak Holding, a construction conglomerate.

The team’s lackluster and inconsistent performances have been a sore to watch and it looks like the Fenerbahce faithful will be pushed to take matters into their own hands as time runs out for the Ali Koc administration to turn things around.
