Erzurumspor sued by two former players

Two former players are taking the club to court over unpaid wages.

Erzurumspor seem to be having problems not just on the field but off the pitch as well. The Super Lig club are being sued by two former players, Lennart Thy and Arsen Khubulov, claiming they have not been paid their wages as per contractual obligations.

The club’s president, Huseyin Unes, gave details on the matter during a post-game press conference held after their 1-1 draw with Galatasaray on Sunday evening.

Referring to Khubulov, who left the club on a free transfer after terminating his deal in February, he said;

“We paid 224,000 euro to a player before he even came to our club, who we agreed to a pay a salary of 630,000 euro. The player complained to FIFA in order to receive the rest.

“After discussions, we agreed to pay him another 273,600 euro so we could part ways. If we didn’t pay this sum, we would have paid 630,000 euro by the end of the season.

“In total, we paid Khubulov 497,000 euro in order to terminate his contract,” he explained.

The president also explained their ongoing lawsuit involving former striker Lennart Thy, who filed 3 cases against them.

“When we came to office, Lennart Thy made a complaint to FIFA claiming unpaid wages and opened three separate cases, for a total of €1,160,000. We tried but were unsuccessful in contacting him and the people who brought him here. So, we hired a Portuguese lawyer who will represent us at FIFA in the best way possible. The lawsuits are ongoing,” he said.

The 27-year-old German forward joined Erzurumspor on a free transfer from Werder Bremen in July 2018 but left after he, like Khubulov, terminated his contract in January 2019.
