Fenerbahce deny making approach for Basaksehir coach

The Yellow Canaries have shut down the reports linking them with a move for Istanbul Basaksehir coach Abdullah Avci.

Fenerbahce have released a statement on their official website dismissing the reports of an approach for Istanbul Basaksehir coach Abdullah Avci.

According to the statement, the Super Lig giants have not held talks with the in-demand coach.

“As of yesterday and today, due to the reports published regarding Abdullah Avci, it is necessary to address the matter. Fenerbahce Sport Club have not made an approach for Mr. Abdullah Avci. We have not had any direct or indirect discussions with Mr. Avci,” the statement read.

Avci, who has impressed this season with guiding Istanbul Basaksehir to a second place finish only to narrowly miss out on, what would have been, the club’s first ever domestic league title, has been linked with the job at Besiktas and Fenerbahce.

Besiktas are yet to announce Senol Gunes’ successor while Fenerbahce are reported to be unsatisfied with Ersun Yanal despite the fact that Yanal steered the club clear of relegation.

Earlier this week, Avci told reporters in Turkey that he has a five-year contract with Basaksehir and intends to see it through.
