Besiktas announce Abdullah Avci as new manager

The Black Eagles have appointed Abdullah Avci as their new manager.

Turkish football giants Besiktas have hired Abdullah Avci as their new manager, the club announced on Saturday.

The Turkish coach as left his previous club, Istanbul Basaksehir, and signed a three-year deal (2+1) that will earn him 12 million Turkish Lira (approximately €1.8 million) per season.

Avci has replaced the club’s former manager, Senol Gunes, who left the helm after four seasons in charge to take charge of the Turkish national team.

Abdullah Avci spent the past five seasons with Istanbul Basaksehir during which he led the team to qualification for the Europa League group stages as well as turn them into serious domestic title contenders.

During the 2018-2019 season, Basaksehir narrowly missed out on the Super Lig title under his guidance, only to be beaten by Galatasaray in the final weeks of the campaign.

Besiktas will hold an official signing ceremony for their new coach on June 10 at the club’s facilities.
