Mesut Ozil ties the knot in Istanbul

The Arsenal maestro is officially a married man.

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil tied the knot in a lavish wedding ceremony in Istanbul on Friday, June 7 which was attended by many celebrities and famous personalities, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The former Germany international wed his long-time girlfriend Amine Gulse, a former Miss Turkey winner.

The wedding was held at the Four Seasons hotel, which is in a 19th-century Ottoman palace along the Bosphorus strait, which separates Istanbul into Europe and Asia.

Known for his generosity, Ozil asked fans and others wishing to give wedding gifts to donate to a charity instead, which pays for surgical operations for poor children.

The couple made a large sum donation to the Turkish Red Crescent which will be used in aiding victims of war and refugees.

The organization has since announced that it used the generous donation to provide food for over 15,000 Syrian refugees.
