Denizlispor stun Galatasaray in league opener

The Roosters pulled off an upset against the defending champions, Galatasaray, on Friday evening in the first game of the season.

The 2019-2020 Turkish Super Lig kicked off with a bang as a passionate crowd of home fans watched Denizlispor upset Galatasaray 2-0 at Denizli Ataturk Stadium on Friday evening.

The game started off with Galatasaray in control, who were awarded a penalty kick in the 25th minute but were denied by the home side’s goalkeeper Stachowiak.

Things began to take a turn when Galatasaray defender Marcao was sent off after he picked up a second yellow card in the 43rd minute, leaving his team with 10 men for the remainder of the game.

Denizlispor’s efforts were rewarded with a goal, which happened to be the first goal of the 2019-2020 season, in the 79th minute thanks to ReceP Niyaz who struck the ball from outside the penalty box.

Colombian forward Hugo Rodallega, who joined the newly promoted club from Trabzonspor earlier this summer, made it 2-0 in stoppage time to give Denizlispor an unexpected but well-deserved win.
