Trabzonspor striker Sorloth closing in on club record

The Norwegian forward is edging closer to writing his name in the history books at Trabzonspor.

Turkish Super Lig’s leading goalscorer at the moment – Alexander Sorloth — is in the best form of his career. The Trabzonspor striker is seemingly unstoppable at the moment and things could get even better for the young forward as he is closing in on a club record.

Having broken his previous best of 15 goals in a single season, he is currently leading the league’s goal-scoring charts with 15 goals.

In all competitions this season, he has scored 18 — 15 in the domestic league, 1 in domestic cup and 2 in the Europa League.

Trabzonspor have something of a gem on their hands in Sorloth as the team has not lost a league game in which the Norweigan has scored in.

His latest goals came in a 6-0 demolishing of Kasimpasa during which he netted a hat-trick.

As if that’s not enough, the tall forward is closing on a club record currently held by former Georgian striker Shota Arevladze — the club’s top foreign goalscorer to date.

In the 1995-1996 season, Shota finished the campaign with 25 goals.

Should Sorloth score 11 more goals in the 16 remaining league fixtures, he will have scored more than the Georgian forward and will become the club’s top foreign goalscorer of all time.

He has already scored more goals than most foreign strikers who have previously played for Trabzonspor.

If he scores 2 more goals, which seems inevitable, Sorloth will catch up to another record holder at the club — Oscar Cardozo; the Paraguayan forward finished the 2014-2015 season with 17 goals.

Despite transferring to Trabzonspor on a two-season loan deal from Crystal Palace for €750,000 at the beginning of the season, Sorloth already has clubs from all across Europe lining up for his signature thanks to his impressive season.

All in all, Sorloth will go down as one of the best forwards Trabzonspor have had in years and if things go his way, he will write his name in the history books of the clubs for many years to come.
