Besiktas coach: We are going through troubling times

The Black Eagles are currently without a manager after having parted ways with Abdullah Avci on Friday.

Things are not going well for Besiktas at the moment and their 2-1 away loss to Goztepe on Sunday has not made matters any better.

After dismissing Abdullah Avci from the managerial post on Friday, Besiktas are currently without a head coach who can take charge of the club as they go through their troubling times.

Coach Senol Fidan was placed as interim caretaker for the team’s Goztepe clash, where they lost to the Izmir club’s first ever game in their band new stadium, Gursel Aksel Stadium.

Speaking to reporters after the 2-1 loss in Izmir, Fidan said the club are going through troubling times but are working on doing their best despite the circumstances.

“We came to Izmir to find morale. Three points were important. Goztepe, with their new stadium, created energy and started strong. They pressed for 10-15 minutes. During the 20 minute mark, we played well, we didn’t give them any chances. But there was one moment where conceded a goal. We showed character and equalized. But, the goal we conceded before the break demoralized us,” Fidan explained.

When asked if he held talks with the club’s board regarding the vacant manager post, Fidan did not give away much on the matter.

“I am a former Besiktas player. Whatever task is given to us, that is what we will do. I have not spoken with the club’s management. The important thing is the success of Besiktas. We don’t think about whether we will stay or go. After last week’s shock announcement, our management thought a shock was needed. We will continue as long as we are asked to,” the Turkish coach said.

Besiktas have been linked with multiple coaches since the sacking of Abdullah Avci and as their search for a new, permanent manager continues reports from Turkey are linking them with names such as former Malatyaspor manager Sergen Yalcin and current Rangers boss Steven Gerrard.
