Sessegnon: I feel free & trustworthy

Stephane Sessegnon spoke about his recent move to Genclerbirligi.

One of Genclerbirligi’s newest signings Stephane Sessegnon was interviewed to speak about his move to Turkey. The Beninese forward has made a solid start to his Super Lig career having scored a goal on his debut.

Sessegnon played his first match for his new club just two days after arriving in Turkey. The experienced international was asked to compare the Turkish Super Lig to England and France’s top flights having played there in the past with teams such as PSG, West Brom and Sunderland.

He emphasized that the English Premier League is more physical and that the French Ligue 1 has more of an emphasis on tactics and statistics while in the Turkish Super Lig, it’s a mix of both leagues.

“I was very pleased with the interest shown in me. To play against Fenerbahce and Besiktas, such important clubs for the league, is good for me, very fun. We have to be more collective on and off the pitch.”

Sessegnon revealed he did not know much about Genclerbirligi when he found out the club made an offer to sign him. He said he asked his friends in Turkey and searched for information online regarding the club and it’s stature. “Before arriving, I spoke with Umit Ozat.”, said the forward.

He expressed how comfortable he feels playing in the tactical system employed at Genclerbirligi; “In my previous clubs, I also played well but here I feel more confident and more free.”

Towards the end of the interview, the 33-year-old said he follows the league closely and watches “big” players such as Gomis, Feghouli and Quaresma.

The Benin international has scored 20 goals and appeared 65 times for his country.
