Turkish defender Caglar Soyuncu joins Leicester City

Promising defender Caglar Soyuncu is on the verge of joining The Foxes.

Freiburg defender Caglar Soyuncu has agreed to a five-year deal with English Premier League club Leicester City.

The Foxes will pay the German club a reported €20.5 million transfer fee for the Turkish international, though with performance-based add-ons the sum could go as high as €23 million.

The player’s agent, Mustafa Dogru, confirmed the talks with Leicester City.

“Our talks with Leicester City about the player’s transfer are ongoing and an official statement will be made once we’ve to come a conclusion.”

The 22-year-old is expected to pass a medical in England today, the final day of the English transfer window.

Caglar has been with Freigburg for the past two seasons, impressing each season and being sought after by some of Europe’s top clubs. He was heavily linked with Arsenal earlier this summer, a club the player publicly stated he would like to play for.

His former club prior to moving to Freiburg, Altinordu FK, will receive 25 percent of any future transfer fee, which means they are will pocket around a €5 million from the deal.
