Besiktas defender Vida injured while on Croatia duty

The Croatian defender was injured and had to leave the field not long after kick off.

Besiktas’ star defender Domagoj Vida picked up an injury during Croatia’s friendly with Portugal on Thursday evening.

The 29-year-old had to be taken off the field by a stretcher and replaced by fellow countryman Tin Jedvaj in the 35th minute of the first half.

The Croatian Football Association released a statement after further tests were carried out to reveal the extent of the injury.

Croatia’s national team doctor, Zoran Bahtijarevic, said the injury was not as serious as initially thought to be.

“After the collision, the player has a strong contusion to the uppoer arm but no issues were detected on the x-ray examinations and should recover soon,” he explained.

The bout between the two teams finished 1-1.
