Kayserispor apologize after 9-1 friendly loss

The Turkish football club’s administration have released a statement after their heavy loss, assuring fans they have “a good team.”

Turkish Super Lig outfit Kayserispor suffered an embarrassing pre-season friendly against Bundesliga club Freiburg on Friday evening.

The result? A humiliating 9-1 loss at the hands of the German club which prompted the Turkish club’s administration to issue an official statement on their website in order to assure fans that the result is not a true reflection of the team’s abilities.

“Our team lost 3-0 in a friendly match with the Bundesliga team SC Freiburg over 75 minutes. After the match, the team consisted of all young and youth players who were defeated 9-1 in a 60 minute match. The results of our players who spent the last few days on a long bus ride did not satisfy us. However, as we are trying to form the team, it would be an exaggeration to give importance to the results of these friendly games whose purpose is to detect deficiencies in advance. Our fans should be relaxed. When the league begins, they will see that they have a very good team,” the statement read.
