Turkish Cup quarter-finals promise surprises

The Turkish Cup has offered plenty of excitement so far with two giants — Besiktas & Istanbul Basaksehir — already having been eliminated by lower tier clubs.

The quarter-finals of this season’s Turkish Cup have been announced and to say they will not disappoint would be an understatement.

With third-tier Turkish football outfit Kirklarelispor knocking out Istanbul Basaksehir recently and Besiktas going out at the hands of second-division Erzurumspor, this year’s quarter-finalists have shown anything is possible in Turkish football.

Galatasaray, Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce are the last three traditional Turkish football powerhouses left in the tournament.

The Lions will be lining up against Alanyaspor in what promises to be an all-out brawl between two of the season’s most attacking teams.

The same can be said for Trabzonspor versus Erzurumspor as the former’s in-form striker — Alexander Sorloth — just can’t seem to stop scoring.

Fenerbahce, on the other hand, will take on third-division Kirklarelispor, who have gotten to this stage of the competition for the first time in the club’s history.

The 2019-2020 Turkish Cup Quarter Final contests will be as follows;

Trabzonspor – Erzurumspor
Kirklarelispor – Fenerbahce
Antalyaspor – Sivasspor
Alanyaspor – Galatasaray

The first leg of the duels will take place on Feb 4-6 while the return leg will be Feb 11-13.
