Antalyaspor fans protest against Samuel Eto'o during match

Antalyaspor fans showed what they thought of their former striker Samuel Eto’o during their club’s home match against Konyaspor on the weekend.

Samuel Eto’o was the focal point of the Super Lig match between Antalyaspor and Konyaspor on Sunday (April 14) as the home side’s fans protested and showed how they truly felt about their former forward leaving their club for a team ranked below them.

Eto’o was in scorching form during his time with Antalyaspor — 44 goals, making him the club’s top all-time goalscorer — as he scored goals week in and week out until he decided to leave the club and sign for Konyaspor during the winter transfer window of the season.

Many saw this as a sign of disrespect as Antalyaspor had went to great lengths to sign and accomodate the Cameroonian star. It’s been alleged that Eto’o moved to Konyaspor for a higher salary, to which the Antalyaspor fans responded by throwing fake US dollars with the Cameroonian’s face on them in protest.

There were fans who held up creative banners in protest such as the one above. The “Eto’o dollars” were scattered all around the stadium and Eto’o began picking them up at one point in order to clear the field.

Eto’o dollars.

Some fans even “showered” the player with the fake US dollars mentioned above as he walked out of the tunnel.
