TFF makes Turkish Cup derby decision

The Turkish Football Federation has announced its decision regarding the Turkish Cup semi-final derby between Fenerbahce and Besiktas, which was abandoned last week due to crowd disturbance.

The second leg of the Turkish Cup derby semi-final match between Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce and Besiktas will be played on May 3 (Thursday) and it will continue from the 57th minute. In addition to this, the match will be played in an empty stadium without spectators.

The score was tied at 0-0, (2-2 on aggregate), before an argument broke out between Fenerbahce fans and Besiktas’ Tolga Zengin who was on the substitute bench.

Shortly following the TFF’s decision, Turkey’s Professional Football Discipline Board (PFDK) announced that Fenerbahce must pay a fine of 1 million Turkish lira and play three home matches behind closed doors due to its fans’ behaviour during the aforemetioned match.

Besiktas defender Pepe, who was given his marching orders with a red card during the heated derby, has also been suspended for one match for his reckless challenge on Fenerbahce’s Josef de Souza.

More than 40 people were taken into custody during the investigation.
