The former Germany international and his wife narrowly escaped a knife attack in London on Thursday.

Arasenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is counting his lucky stars after surviving an attack from a knife-wielding gang on the streets of North London.

The 30-year-old was seen on surveillance footage being targeted by a gang who surrounded his black Mercedez-Benz vehicle atound 5 P.M. local time in an attempt to rob him of his possessions.

The former Germany international was accompanied by his teammate Sead Kolasinac who was able to distract and fight off the attackers as Mesut Ozil drove away to get help.

After driving to a Turkish restaurant nearby, Ozil ran out of the vehicle to ask for help.

“Police were called to Platts Lane, NW3, shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday, 25 July to reports of an attempted robbery,” a police spokesperson said.
