Bernard Mensah suspended by Kayserispor

Ghana international Bernard Mensah has been removed from the first team due to disciplinary issues.

Relegation-threatened Kayserispor have suspended their midfielder Bernard Mensah from the first team.

On Thursday, the Turkish football club’s Vice President Mustafa Tokgoz announced the club’s decision citing “undisciplined behaviour and disobeying the rules of the camp” as the reason for his exclusion from the squad.

The club’s head coach, Roberto Prosinecki, spoke to reporters in Kayseri during Thursday’s training session regarding Mensah’s exclusion from the first squad and said the player is not entirely “out of the team.”

“When I came to the camp in Antalya, I saw a disciplinary problem in general. We are a team at the bottom of the league. At every club the coach goes, the president goes, the players, everyone changes but the club remains. The club will always be here. That’s why nobody is above the club. The club’s rules always apply. In this regard, we had a few problems with Mensah. But that does not mean he is totally out of the team,” Prosinecki said.

The recently appointed coach also suggested the player could make his way back into the team if he follows certain rules set forth by the club.

“If certain things improve, of course, we can use Mensah. He could return. We have not completely written him off. In order for him to continue here, there are certain rules we have which must be followed,” the coach explained.

The 25-year-old joined Kayserispor on a permanent transfer from Atletico Madrid in July 2019 for roughly €3.5 million.

He has made 13 league appearances for the club this season.
