Intercontinental derby ends in draw

Intercontinental derby ends in a goalless draw

The highly anticipated Intercontinental derby between city rivals Fenerbahce and Galatasaray ended in a goalless draw earlier this Saturday night in the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.

Turkish Super Lig leaders Galatasaray had history against them as they pushed to break the 19-year unlucky streak against Fenerbahce at their home turf however Fener’s run continues as the game ended a 0-0 draw.

The match wasn’t without it’s controversial moments, of course. There were questionable calls made by referee Bulent Yildirim. There were shouts for penalty calls from both sides that were shut down but replays showed that the match should have had two clear penalties; 1 for Fenerbahce for a foul on striker Roberto Soldado and 1 for Galatasaray as a ball clearly struck Fenerbahce’s Mehmet Topal’s hand.

The draw means both teams share a point and remain in their pre-match table positions; Galatasaray occupies first place with 53 points while Fener remains in 4th with 48 points.

While it wasn’t the most exciting match to watch, the race to be crowned Turkish Super Lig champions still remains intense as ever.
