Fenerbahce reject Rangers approach for Skrtel

Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce have issued a hands-off warning to Rangers over Steven Gerrard’s top target Martin Skrtel.

Martin Skrtel is wanted by Rangers’ new boss Steven Gerrard according to the British press.

The 33-year-old central defender is reportedly the man Rangers want to kick-start Gerrard’s Ibrox revolution.

However, the Slovakian stopper still has a year left on his contract at the Istanbul club and is one of the top earners at the club.

Fenerbahce manager Aykut Kocaman is in no hurry to sell the club’s key player, who cost them £5 million two years ago.

Kocaman was quoted as saying: “Martin Skrtel is an important part of the team. He won’t be going anywhere this summer. Why would he? He is happy here. He is a brave warrior. Last week against Kasimpasa, he received the worst wound I have ever seen in my football career. His head was burst open.”

“But he got five stitches and played on. He had to go to the hospital after the game and get several more stitches. This is the type of person he is. He is an inspiration.”

Gerrard and Skrtel played together at Liverpool for 8 years and is highly rated by the new Ibrox boss.
