diego lugano visits Fenerbahce

Former Uruguay international Diego Lugano paid a visit to his former stomping grounds in Istanbul yesterday.

Diego Lugano, one of Fenerbahce’s most effective defensive players during his time with the club, traveled to Istanbul to visit his former club and teammates ahead of their derby against Besiktas.

The 37-year-old, now retired, caught up with former teammates like Volkan Demirel and met the new stars at the club such as Valbuena and Ayew.

He brought the club’s president, Ali Koc, a signed jersey of Brazilian club Sao Paulo, where he is currently employed as their director of football.

The Uruguayan said he wants the two clubs to become closer and work together in the near future.

Speaking to Fenerbahce TV during his visit, he said;

“I spent many years here. I believe I left good impressions. The years I spent at Fenerbahce are some of the best I experienced. This is my second home.”

He said he is looking forward to the Fenerbahce-Besiktas derby tonight, which he will watch with anticipation, and will be hoping Fener comes out victorious.
