FB-BJK derby ends in stalemate

fb-bjk derby ends in stalemate

The Super Lig clash between rivals Fenerbahce and Besiktas ended in a 1-1 draw, continuing Fener’s undefeated record at home against Besiktas.

The first Istanbul derby of the season between Fenerbahce and Besiktas ended in a 1-1 draw at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on Monday evening in Istanbul.

The result means Besiktas will have to wait another year to try and break their curse of not being able to win against Fenerbahce at their home ground since 2005.

Besiktas manager Senol Gunes’s unfortunate luck of not being able to taste victory at Fenerbahce’s stomping grounds also continues. The experienced coach has never won at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in all of his 30 years as a coach.

Despite constant pressure by Fenerbahce, Besiktas took the lead in the first half with Dutch winger Ryan Babel’s powerful strike outside the penalty area in the 40th minute.

The Yellow Canaries responded in the second half with their Ghanaian star, Andre Ayew, who found the back of the net with a strong header at the 71st minute mark.

Besiktas full-back Caner Erkin was sent off with a second yellow card after the final whistle was blown.

The draw sees Besiktas pick up another point to their ally of 11, leaving them in 4th place, while Fenerbahce, with their first draw of the season, remain in 13th place with just 7 points after 6 games.
