Fenerbahce fans protest, call for new coach

Fenerbahce fans protest, want Ersun Yanal

Some of the club’s passionate fans have made their voices heard as they gathered to protest the club’s administration.

A group of Fenerbahce fans gathered in front of the club’s Samandira Can Bartu facilities in Istanbul and chanted a former Fenerbahce coach’s name, Ersun Yanal.

The 56-year-old Turkish coach was in charge of the Super Lig powerhouse for a season in 2013/2014 and the club’s supporters clearly have fond memories of his time.

He guided the team to the Super Lig title that season, losing just 10 games the entire campaign. He had employed an all-out attacking style of football which pleased fans for the number of goals the team managed to score that season; 74.

Fenerbahce are currently going through a difficult, transitional period after changing club presidents and coaches in the summer.

Despite having dismissed Phillip Cocu from their backroom staff last month, the team are struggling under Erwin Koeman, who was initially appointed as assistant manager but has been promoted to the head coach position.

The Yellow Canaries are in unprecedented 15th place with 13 points, just 1 point away from the relegation zone.
